A routine goodbye turns into a family's worst nightmare — sudden loss, raw grief, and unanswered questions. This poem captures the quiet devastation of ordinary lives shattered in an instant.

As usual he bids the family goodbye
Sets off for work
With the son closing school
Opted to give him a little push,
A little more time for father son bonding
I need more drawing pens and plain book when you come back in the evening- he said
The son opened the gate
He sat on his motorbike and sailed off
This was the last time they saw him alive
A call came 20mins later,
He’s been rushed to the hospital
Critical
What happened?
He tried to cross the road
A bus came from nowhere
…
I Imagine
In his usual official look,
Lying in the middle of the dusty tarmac
Writhing in pain
Blood oozing
As life slowly seeps away
A crowd gathers
A quick check on the pulse,
Faint
He's hurriedly bundled in a car
Each second synced to the heartbeat
Hanging on
As he struggles for life
They reach the hospital
There’s nothing to be done
He’s already gone
He’s been juggling between two jobs
A sole breadwinner in a family of four
The wife seemed happy as a housewife
A pretty charming lady with an infectious laugh
She spends the day chatting with the other women in the plot
She’s a kind soul
We’ve been friends
Life has been good,
What now?
She cries her heart out
Her throat is dry
Attempts to comfort her are futile
She faints
First aid, nothing
We are losing her
She’s rushed to the hospital
The daughter is sitting at the sofa
She’s the first born
Trying to be strong
For her mother
Her brothers
She looks famished, pale, tired
Her voice is hoarse
She blankly stares at her phone
She shows me
Her dad's pictures
He liked selfies- she says
This one he took it yesterday,
Lively man, full of energy and glamor
Did you ever see him?- she asks
Despite living in the same plot
We barely saw him
Just once, I recalled
I don’t know how he's looking now- she says
Its been two days
You haven’t seen him yet?
I am scared, she says
Tears flashes in her eyes
She swallows bitterly
She Asks,
What Now?
Silence!
So is Life…
